Arm warmers

After a delightfully quirky request from a friend in Melbourne last week I embarked on these arm warmers yesterday.

Here is the original Pattern by Cinnamonamon for the picot-lace-arm warmers - they are in a 10ply and Frippet and myself wanted something lighter weight.

I had to source the exact colour yarn as requested and Beth from Morris and Sons helped with the grey when I bought the red from there last Thursday. She had lots from an op shop purchase. I am getting some Madelinetosh sock yarn in exchange - fair deal I think.

So pattern picked, colour decided and yarn sourced it was all systems go.

Last night I swatched and then rewrote the pattern to suit my style of knitting - basically knitting from the arm up and with increases instead of decreases and to fit the recipient.

And here goes for my changes

Wool - Jo Sharp DK - 2 50gram balls for the main colour (MC) and a small amount for the contrast colour(CC) for the picot
I used
MC Winter 904
CC Scarlet Shade 907

To fit hand diam 19.5cm
Arm just below elbow 23cm

4mm needles - I use 4 bamboo DPNS
Gauge 5cm = 12 stitches

Starting at the hand end

Using the CC cast on 34 stitches join to knit in the round
Knit 2 rounds
Row 3 (Knit 2together , Yarn over) repeat to the end
Knit 3 rounds

Change to MC knit 2 rounds
Row 9 Knit 9, *YO, SSK, Knit 3, YO, SSK, **Knit to end
Row 10 Knit 9 ,*Knit 2 together, YO, Knit 3, Knit 2 together,YO, **knit to end
Repeat these two rows until 4cm from picot edge(when folded over) now for the spot for the thumb - finish with a row 10 to start the thumb holes

Thumb hole -
Left side - Cast off 5 stitches, knit 4, pattern row 9 from * keep with pattern
Next row Using the back loop method cast on 5 stitches, knit 4 and pattern row 10 from*again keep with pattern
Right side - pattern row 9 keep with pattern at **Cast off 5 stitches, knit to end
Next row pattern row 10 until **Using the back loop method cast on 5 stitches, knit to end

Increases-
Keeping pattern correct using row 9 & 10 knit til the arm warmer measures from picot edge 13cm, 14.5cm, 17.5cm, 21cm, 22cm and 24cm - 6 increases in total

Row 9 Pattern increase- Knit 9(10,11,12,13,14), M1(lift the bar between stitches twist and knit),K1, YO, SSK, Knit 3, YO, SSK, K1,M1, Knit to end

Row 10 Pattern increase,Knit 9(10,11,12,13,14)M1, K1,K2TOG, YO, Knit 3, K2TOG, YO, K1, M1knit to end

When the arm warmer measures 27cm change to CC
Knit 2 rounds
Next Row - (Knit 2together , Yarn over) repeat to the end
Knit 2 rounds
Cast off loosely

Note bold is 8th May changes as I reread pattern this morning to check for errors.

Sew down the picot edge and ends
