I did a search on Ravelry and the word nupps kept coming up. Nupps I asked myself what nupps. My chart has no nupps....
Nupps send shivers down the spin of most knitters - the k1,yo,k1,yo,k1,yo,k1 into the one stitch on one way over, and then purl these stitches all together on the way back - sounds easy, go on try it. Unless you are really loose with the yarn it can be an absolute (please give me vodka) bugger, try purling 7 stitches together.
I know, I have been there, I have learnt this lesson. To be honest, is the end result worth the effort? I ask you reader should I?
So last night I left you with feeling of joy, and no worries she'll be right mate.
Today I am not so sure.

Just don't do them! Your MIL will never know!
I love the nupps on the swallowtail - they really do add to the texture. But Fee, don't do them if you think it will spoil the pleasure of knitting the shawl. It's such a beautiful gift - with or without the nupps.
Bung on beads instead?
I don't hate nupps TOO much myself...
Don't do them if you don't want to Fee - nobody will know.
Although they are worth it if you can bear them..
aaagh i hate nupps. for a tight knitter, they are a total nightmare. they are lovely, but i could live without them. you however, will do them beautifully!
