silk worm update

As promised here is an update on the silk worms - remember back at the beginning of the month...

Anyway there are cocoons and now some gorgeous white moths - and thanks to Jeff for the photos and to Julie for the update today.

And no ews but awws now...

the other science experiment of the weekend was that I learnt yesterday that kidney's explode if you heat them up in the microwave for the kittens to eat.  As they have a membrane - and if they explode check the ceiling too.....ewwwww

what I have done

Well today I put up the blinds in the bedroom,

then I made some cookies

war is being won agains ants in the pantry

and now I am going to sit down

and knit some more of my shawl.

I also took photos of all of the madelinetosh
I have been acquiring of late -
thank you to Pru she is my dealer in such yarn.

come to the vintage sale
sample of goods

And I finished my Manu

I love this knit - although it took what seemed like an age it was a pleasure to knit - so well written and I learnt to look at the wraps and turned them all around after I had knitted them into the row, they twisted up somehow - I find wrap and turns such a confusion.
The possum merino from Touch was at first I thought giving me an allergy - but I soon realised that the move and boxes and tape was playing havoc with my poor hands.  The possum is so soft and warm and snuggly to wear.  The pockets are genius.
Love love love this knit.

the real colour is in the closeups - the larger photo didn't really work out.

Touch Yarns Possum Merino - colourway is Cranberry -  I think this is a 4 ply but it knits up like and 8
needles - 3.5mm, 3.75mm and 4.5mm

and it took ages - I started back in the old house on June the 27th and final bit done on August 12th - then blocked and worn for the past 3 days, a real success

and thanks to Jody for picking out the buttons, she walked into the button shop in Newtown and this was the first container she pulled off the shelf - YAY

nearly but not quite my day in food

I nearly did it but I forgot to take my phone to dinner tonight - we were at a fantastic turkish place in Auburn - next time.

Breakfast was at the Bourke St Bakery in Marrickville - S.V. has breakfast and lunch at the same time

I had fruit toast with ricotta and jam

Breakfast for S.V. was brioche with ricotta and jam

the pie with beef brisket

then I made some more cookies but this time with sour cream and no sugar and different plum paste - they taste great and got a big thumbs up

This is the new jam I tried with the balls of dough behind - they are basically butter, sour cream and flour

Rolling out the dough
Can you see how different these two look - the one at the top is rolled like a croissant - how it should be - and the one at the bottom is how I did the last batch and most of this one.  Til the penny dropped as I was trying to work out the maximum jam spread and reread the recipe duh!!!

9 litres

of bolognase sauce is a bit too much but that is what I have done today - made 9 litres - for freezing and for quick meals whilst we are packing and moving.  Adrian Richardson is my meat god.

I also made these croatian plum bikkies - S.V. is in heaven - thanks to Bells and her sister and their food blog I delved into the Food Safari book for these - anyone of Eastern European heritage would no doubt be as crazy for these as S.V. is.

We picked out our new fridge this morning - which is really exciting now just to find the best deal and make sure it arrives when it is needed.

I have been making very slow knitting progress, but I am loving the double sided cable rib and no boxes today as yet

The cat, Tom, as yet has not demanded to be let in but no doubt now that it is raining he will be demanding drying and cuddles.  The poor cats are not liking the boxes and the moving around of things - they are fighting more and I have a few more scratches than normal.  Po is currently walking all over me and the comupter.
