we have a fridge

Dearest readers with my fridge I am going to have to say goodbye for the moment - as we are offline without the internet until next Wednesday - but as you know these things are never as they say and it may be later than that.

I may be able to send photos from my phone but as I will be in unpack and sort mode so we will have to see how the week travels.

Have a great weekend what ever you are up to.

the floor is not level or is it the cupboard?

moving

so we are moving

our new house

it is really happening

Thursday is settlement and I have to confirm the removalist but either Friday or Saturday the boxes get moved.

I am in the planning stages mark 2 but tomorrow I am starting on the shed and the laundry.  I am going to clear out the study and put all the packed boxes in there - less disturbance for us as possible.

The wattle is blooming again it is so beautiful

I had a question regarding the biscuits - the Almond ones are from the Margret Fulton Christmas cook book.  Anzacs are oat golden syrup biscuits that are very Australian and New Zealand treat and tradition - made during the 1st world war and sent over as tac for the soldiers.  Try buying oats around Anzac day - they always sell out in the supermarkets and shops......

moving

now that the move has been put back a month I will have even more time to be organised

and today another great post re moving - I like the idea of beverages in the fridge - although perhaps being winter here I should move the tea making stuff first.....

I promise I will keep you all up to date with move shenanigans next month.......

Good news

Just to be clear
we are still buying our house - and we are so excited

there is some sorting out of who is financing said purchase

both the owners of our new house and our landlords have given us a months grace

so now we have the time to sort out the best way forward for us, and we have the time now to do this

so box count is none this weekend as now I can take a week off around the move so this bit of stress is alleviated

the sad bit is that it is probably the Bendigo weekend is the weekend we are moving.....

snap

this article about what sort of mover are you featured today on Apartment Therapy.

I am really a mix of the two styles of mover - I am a really orgainised packer - I will have it all done by the end of Monday - except the bits we will use throughout the week.  Then Friday night I will work out the final bits and have them packed and ready for the movers at lunch on Saturday.
I write on boxes where they go and a brief summary of what is inside - that way I can put my hand on things if we need them before, during or after the move.

The cats are going to the vets for one or two nights-  so we don't have to worry about them running away and just to really confuse them.  They are most upset at the moment anyway with all of the boxes and packing.

Both S.V. and I have been sorting through out stuff since before Xmas - we pick a room and then go through what we use and what we don't.  The book collection reduced by 1/2 one day in Febuary.  My wool collection by a small amount.  Our clothes we go through each season.

I am sure we will still be moving stuff that we will get rid of later but we have decided not to buy anything new for the house until we move.  I have that next week off to sort and unpack and make those trips to Ikea to fill in the gaps.

goodbye

Early next week the final bits of paper change hands and I will no longer own my tiny piece of Darlinghurst.

8 years ago when I moved in I was living a very different life.  I had already been 7 years up the road next to what was Dov.   I was very single and working long hours on various cop shows.  I had never thought I could buy property but on some very good advice and encouragement I did it.  It took a few years to save the deposit and after a year of looking I found my dream home.

Over the years I made my courtyard in to a green haven, renovated , joined the strata, organised extensive building works and dealt with extremely complicated strata politics.

I loved walking through the communal garden, into my courtyard and then into my flat.

I loved sitting on the lounge and looking up to the sky past the tree in the courtyard.

I loved not having the bathroom off the bedroom.

Due to the amount of strata work going on and the numerous special levies I had little or no money to do much and after major damp work on the flat I managed to remove the wall between the kitchen and lounge to open the flat up.  It took nearly 9 months to finish off the flat after this and for quite a bit of it I lived in a dusty mess.  I saved to put in the floor - which I did in a day with a chippie friend, I saved to put in carpet, I painted the entire flat over one Easter - 3 coats on each surface, undercoat and then 2 coats of paint on top.

When S.V. moved to Sydney we needed more space and  moved across the courtyard to one of my neighbor's place whilst she was overseas for a year.  So the transition out of my flat and Darlinghurst was very gentle.  It was collecting the last of my plants this week that made me realise how sad I am about saying goodbye.  I also think that my life there was also so much about my friendship with Sally and this all being so close to her going is making it harder still.

This is not to say that I am not happy to be where I am now - but I really felt the need to acknowledge saying good bye to that part of my life and my lovely little home in Darlinghurst.

Honey Honey Honey

Well as a celebration for moving into our new house S.V. has been racking his brains for a statement.....

A fountain was out (think the yellow pages add with the flying appendage)

A statue was not even considered (see above minus water)

Upside down plants were a fleeting thought

I thought a bigger BBQ - or TV but no that isn't it either

BEES - we are going to get bees - stingless Australian ones

I really would like chooks but the cats would too - for dinner
